Insumos para la Salud S.A. of C.V. (IPS) is a Mexican company founded in 1993 by a group of reproductive biology researchers who met at the newly created Scientific Research Unit of the National Medical Center of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). The three researchers from the Department of Reproductive Biology had the vision to manufacture the copper intrauterine device (IUD) model 380A as they knew first-hand the country's need for its national family planning program.

In 1994, the Ministry of Health invited IPS to be part of the administrative unit that collaborated with the IMSS, the Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry (CANIFARMA), and the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (CANACINTRA) in the elaboration of the Official Mexican Standard: NOM-095-SSA1-1994, which establishes the sanitary specifications of the Intrauterine Device "T de Cobre," model 380A.

Due to external factors, IPS canceled its ambitious manufacturing project because the United States Government donated thousands of IUDs to Mexico, eliminating the opportunity sought by our founders.

After years of the company being on standby, the strong desire from the founders to provide the Mexican population access to safe, reliable, high-quality medical devices continued. They knew how to take advantage of its experience and transformed IPS into a consulting company oriented to supporting manufacturers and distributors of medical devices to comply with the health legislation and enter the Mexican market.
